Written some STARFINDER junk.

and then some MUTANTS AND MASTERMINDS junk.

my dream is the completion of a streamlined Centraɭ Castîng generator.

Re: Centraɭ Castîng

I've long wanted to do CC but to be honest it kind of intimidated me. Nice to see you tackling it! I noticed you took out rerolls. Do you think you'll just leave those out or do you have ideas of how to handle them better? -- Serpentine Cougar (talk) 20:35, 30 September 2019 (PDT)

my goal is to just get it working, with all the charts from the book as basic. then I might try to add the re-roll function. I think some levels of recursion break the pages, not an expert. but first I'm gonna to like 6 basic chart-calls. like 2 events of childhood, 2 in adolescence, and 2 in adulthood. the trick is for me to keep working and not get frustrated or distracted. I wish there was a way to store variables! thanks for reading and looking.

Is there a particular naming scheme you're using for your Centraɭ Castîng generators? I noticed some start with "Fantasy-CC", some with "CC-", some with "Cent-Castîng", and at least one with "Fant CC". It would be nice if the names were consistent.

For variables I've experimented with a couple ways to get closer to variables. One is here, and the other is here. The second one is intended for stuff like stats or skills that change over the character's past. If the second one looks promising I'll turn it into a template - I just haven't had time to yet. -- Serpentine Cougar (talk) 17:37, 11 October 2019 (PDT)

I answered most of this on your talk page also.
No my naming convention is not perfect. The only consistency is the CC
My goal is to get EVERY chart from the book into the generator.

also see this page, please : Cent-Casting-Org-Chart

Plus I tried to remove most everything adult or possibly distasteful in the book.
Thanks for looking and asking.

Thanks for the explanation! That page helps, too. I love that you're tackling Central Casting (hope my critique didn't give the opposite impression) and I agree with your approach - multiple generators, getting the basics working first, using existing Abulafia tables, etc. Maybe I'll try to rename/improve naming conventions in the future, but I'll wait till you're mostly done so I don't step on your toes. My personal preference would be the "Fantasy-CC" prefix (except on the main generator) to be better prepared for the possibility of Sci-Fi/Modern CC down the road.

Yeah, my variables approach still won't be able to affect table probabilities based on variable values without extensive, ugly nested ifs and multiple tables for the same thing. Unfortunate.

But I don't think my variable ideas require everything to be in the same giant generator. The sub-tables that feed into the main one could return results containing the weird unicode symbols and the main one could be where they get replaced with something prettier/readable at the very end. So you could at least handle gender and maybe skill levels. At least that's how I was envisioning it. Of course that approach would sacrifice having nicely readable results from the subtables, in case someone didn't need the full character history, unless there was an additional block like [main_readable] for example.

For indefinite articles a/an, have you seen Template:Article? You can use its shortcut in tables like:
1,{{ia|[some_table]}}

Anyways, keep up the good work! -- Serpentine Cougar (talk) 08:31, 12 October 2019 (PDT)

I had no idea tables could talk to each other.

Quick Dungeon NPC is an example of a table that uses the Replace function. Another, simpler use is Fantasy Pantheon's "Natural" table.

And an example using the IA template (for indefinite articles) is ClothingFemale, for example its "%Accs" table. Hope these help!

Astrangeaeon

I tried emailing you, but it didn't seem like it was a valid address! Just wanted to say I'm excited to see your progress on CC Fantasy--the CC books are beloved. Any plan on doing the Sci Fi and Modern ones one day? I haven't been around in years--marriage, house, kid, etc.--but still love this site. I wanted to praise your organization method with the helper tables and whatnot--wish I'd had the wherewithal to do that for Rumors from the beginning. We (MikeyD was instrumental) tried to put some organization into the Discussion page, but your way is much cleaner!

Cent-Casting Beta Testing

Fantasy Lives

Thanks for making tables and charts I could borrow from.

the main backstory generator page is at CC-Fantasy-Lives

I've gotten my Casting-style background tables prepared to the point

I want to call for help and beta-testing. my email is Egyptoid @ gmail - com

or my user discussion page User_talk:Egyptoid

please run it a few times, and tell me about what stinks.

also I ask what should the final layout look like ?

some of the errors are minor, and come from trying to parse grammar

across 4 sub-charts, like: the sorcerer summoned the an water elemental that fallen into a volcano

previous authors have tried to adhere to the book, I have just used the Casting book as a skeleton,

and tried to improvise and expand with the wide capabilities of Abulafia.

please let me know if you like it not, and why.

holler

I wanted to thank you for having lovingly hand-crafted some of the nicer tables here. I also love this site.
